SINGAARAM MOVIE REVIEW :
Singgaramm’ begins with an intriguing premise about a man whose fortunes change overnight, opening the door to a larger journey from the margins of society to the political arena.
Directed by KV Kathirvelu, the film follows Singaram (Yogi Babu), a man from the nomadic Narikuravar community whose life takes an unexpected turn after a lottery win.
His newfound financial security eventually leads him towards politics, setting the stage for a story about social mobility, ambition and the challenges of navigating a world that has long kept his community at the margins.
The premise has the makings of an engaging rural fable, with opportunities to explore how sudden wealth changes relationships, perceptions and aspirations. The comedy fares better. Lottery-related excitement, domestic arguments and village-level conflicts provide the film’s lighter moments. Kathirvelu’s approach to storytelling is straightforward.
Yogi Babu brings his familiar screen presence to Singaram, making the character accessible despite the screenplay’s limitations. His performance suits the film’s mix of humour and emotional drama.
MS Bhaskar provides dependable support as Singaram’s father, bringing warmth and credibility to the family portions. The supporting cast fits the film’s rural setting, even as several characters remain more functional than fully developed.
One of the film’s more appealing aspects is its depiction of rural life from an earlier period. The production design and cinematography capture the atmosphere convincingly, lending the story a sense of place. The film’s visual presentation is often more effective than its narrative execution.
At its heart, ‘Singgaramm’ is built around a simple story with an emotional core. A more nuanced screenplay could have explored the protagonist’s changing identity, the social realities of his community and the complicated relationship between money and political power. On the whole,’Singgaramm’ is a well-intentioned rural political drama that has a promising premise.
