Sananth’s career as an actor has never been a bed of roses, but rather an excruciating phase where his potential, more often than not, remained unexplored. It is therefore a truly gladdening moment for the actor and movie buffs to see him shine at his pinnacle with his powerful performance in the latest release, Dorothy. While the trailers showcased him as a ruffian with aggressive mannerisms, leading audiences to expect him to portray a rustic character, Sananth delivered an absolute surprise with his remarkable performance as Subbu. The actor, who has waited for years for a role that could truly showcase his potential, has finally found what many are calling the best of his career, with reviews and audience reception showering him with praise.
“This is a dream come true for me. As an aspiring actor, I have always desired to play something that will remain as a lifetime role, which I can look back on after decades and rejoice. I thank my producers, Karthik Subbaraj and the entire team for giving me a role that explores the deepest emotions of human beings,” says Sananth, who adds that he completely believed in the process, and that conviction has now earned him a positive reception.
Sharing how deeply he connected with the character from the very first narration, Sananth says, “When Karthik Subbaraj narrated the script, I was emotionally bound to the role. Dorothy was born in me from the moment I listened to the script. The vision of Karthik Subbaraj was so clear that he didn’t want to showcase this character through clichéd mannerisms, but instead wanted to convey the emotions. My character gained its substance with the support of the other characters. Both Rishikanth and Keerthy Suresh’s roles were designed with so much intensity that they kept elevating my presence in the movie.”
Sananth also has special words for the film’s technical brilliance, particularly the music of Maestro Ilaiyaraaja and the visuals of cinematographer Thirunavukkarasu. “Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja sir’s music is like a celestial bliss showered on the film. DOP Thiru sir has made the film achieve a global phenomenon. His visual language conveys more emotions to international and regional audiences. Dorothy will be a soulful tattoo engraved deep in my heart, and playing this role is like winning a lifetime honour. To see the audiences, especially mothers and sisters from every home, appreciating my character and performance leaves me speechless.” Adding more about the climax scene, Sananth claims, “There is a particular sequence towards the end where the character undergoes a transformation, and portraying that moment was one of the biggest challenges for me. It required me to completely let go of everything I had established about Subbu until then and emotionally surrender to a new space. Karthik Subbaraj sir presented that transformation with extraordinary sensitivity, never allowing it to feel forced or superficial. Thiru sir’s camera captured the emotional nuances so beautifully, while Isaignani Ilaiyaraaja sir’s music added an incredible soul to the entire sequence. The combination of their presentation, visuals and music made the moment far more powerful than what I had imagined while performing it. It remains one of the most challenging and emotionally fulfilling portions of my experience in Dorothy.”

முதல் முறையாகக் கதையைக் கேட்ட தருணத்திலேயே அந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்துடன் தனக்கு ஏற்பட்ட ஆழமான தொடர்பு குறித்து சனந்த் கூறுகையில், “கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ் சார் கதையைச் சொன்னபோதே, அந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்துடன் நான் உணர்வுப்பூர்வமாக ஒன்றிப்போனேன். கதையைக் கேட்ட அந்த நொடியில் இருந்தே ‘டோரதி’ என்னுள் பிறந்துவிட்டாள். கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ் சாரின் பார்வை மிகவும் தெளிவாக இருந்தது. வழக்கமான சினிமா பாணியிலான உடல்மொழி அல்லது செயற்கையான பாவனைகள் மூலம் இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தை வெளிப்படுத்த அவர் விரும்பவில்லை. மாறாக, அதன் உணர்வுகளை பார்வையாளர்களிடம் கொண்டு சேர்க்கவே விரும்பினார். மற்ற கதாபாத்திரங்களும் வலுவாக இருந்ததால் எனது கதாபாத்திரமும் மேலும் வலுவானது. ரிஷிகாந்த் மற்றும் கீர்த்தி சுரேஷ் ஆகியோரின் கதாபாத்திரங்கள் இந்தப் படத்தின் தூண். அவை படத்தில் எனது கதாபாத்திரத்தின் இருப்பையும் தொடர்ந்து உயர்த்திக் கொண்டே இருந்தன” என்கிறார்.
படத்தின் தொழில்நுட்ப சிறப்புகள் குறித்தும், குறிப்பாக இசைஞானி இளையராஜாவின் இசை மற்றும் ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் திருநாவுக்கரசுவின் காட்சியமைப்புகள் குறித்தும் சனந்த் பாராட்டியுள்ளார். “இசைஞானி இளையராஜா சாரின் இசை, இந்தப் படத்தின் ஆசீர்வாதம். ஒளிப்பதிவாளர் திரு சார் தனது காட்சியமைப்புகளின் மூலம் இந்தப் படத்தை உலக அளவில் பேசப்படும் படைப்பாக மாற்றியுள்ளார். அவரது காட்சிமொழி, சர்வதேச மற்றும் பிராந்திய பார்வையாளர்களிடம் கொண்டு சேர்த்தது. ‘டோரதி’ திரைப்படம் எனக்கு ஆத்மார்த்தமான அனுபவம். இந்தக் கதாபாத்திரத்தில் நடித்திருப்பது என் வாழ்நாளின் மிகப்பெரிய கௌரவங்களில் ஒன்று.குறிப்பாக, ஒவ்வொரு வீட்டிலும் இருக்கும் அம்மாக்கள், சகோதரிகள் என பெண்கள் எனது கதாபாத்திரத்தையும் நடிப்பையும் பாராட்டுவதைப் பார்க்கும்போது அந்த உணர்வை விவரிக்க என்னிடம் வார்த்தைகள் இல்லை” என்றார்.
படத்தின் கிளைமாக்ஸ் காட்சியில் இடம்பெறும் கதாபாத்திரத்தின் மாற்றம் குறித்து மேலும் பேசிய சனந்த், “படத்தின் இறுதிப்பகுதியில் ஒரு குறிப்பிட்ட காட்சியில் எனது கதாபாத்திரம் மிகப்பெரிய மாற்றத்தைச் சந்திக்கும். அந்தத் தருணத்தை வெளிப்படுத்துவது எனக்கு மிகப்பெரிய சவால். அதுவரை சுப்பு கதாபாத்திரம் பற்றி நான் உருவாக்கி வைத்திருந்த அனைத்தையும் முழுமையாக விட்டுவிட்டு, ஒரு புதிய உணர்வுப்பூர்வமான நிலைக்குள் என்னை முழுமையாக ஒப்படைக்க வேண்டியிருந்தது. அந்தக் காட்சி கட்டாயப்படுத்தப்பட்டதாகவோ, மேலோட்டமானதாகவோ தோன்றாத வகையில் கார்த்திக் சுப்புராஜ் சார் அந்த மாற்றத்தை உணர்வுப்பூர்வமாகவும் நுட்பமாகவும் காட்சிப்படுத்தியுள்ளார். திரு சாரின் கேமரா அந்தக் காட்சியில் இடம்பெற்ற உணர்வுகளின் நுணுக்கங்களை அற்புதமாகப் பதிவு செய்தது. அதே நேரத்தில், இசைஞானி இளையராஜா சாரின் இசை அந்தக் காட்சிக்கு உயிர் கொடுத்தது. காட்சி, ஒளிப்பதிவு மற்றும் இசை என மூன்றும் அற்புதமாக ஒன்றிணைந்த இடம் அது. அந்த காட்சி எப்போதும் என் நினைவில் இருக்கும்” என்றார்.
