From leading roles in her early years to some of the most memorable character performances of her later career, Sowcar Janaki demonstrated that true artistry does not depend on age, image or convention. Her voice, expressions and presence could command a scene with remarkable ease.
She belonged to a generation of artistes who built the very foundations of South Indian cinema, and her contribution across Tamil, Telugu, Kannada and Malayalam cinema will remain an enduring part of our film history.
Her passing leaves a deep void in the industry, but also an invaluable legacy for generations of actors who follow.
